Casting Cost Calculator – How It Works
Use this jewelry casting cost calculator to estimate the total cost to 3D print, cast, and finish your custom jewelry piece based on the metal type, piece weight in grams, and today’s live precious metal spot price (Gold, Silver, and Platinum). This tool is designed for jewelers, designers, and customers who want fast and transparent pricing for casting services.
1) Live Metal Spot Price (Gold, Silver, Platinum)
The calculator pulls the current spot price per troy ounce for:
Gold (XAU)
Silver (XAG)
Platinum (XPT)
These spot prices are automatically converted into a cost per gram, then adjusted depending on whether you choose Pure Silver vs 925 Silver, or a specific gold karat like 10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, or 24K.
2) Metal Type Selection (Silver, Gold Karat, Platinum)
Choose the metal you want your piece cast in:
Pure Silver or 925 Sterling Silver
10K Gold, 14K Gold, 18K Gold, 22K Gold, 24K Gold
Platinum
The calculator applies a karat/sterling factor to estimate the metal cost per gram:
925 Silver is calculated from silver spot × 0.925
Gold karats are calculated from gold spot × (karat ÷ 24)
This helps you estimate real-world pricing based on the metal purity.
3) Casting Type Options
Select the service level you need:
Print Only
If you only need the wax/resin print, the price is calculated using the piece weight and a flat print rate per gram.
Cast Only
Best if you already have a printable wax/resin model and only need casting. The calculator uses your weight range to apply the correct casting rate and combines it with the metal cost per gram.
Print & Cast
Includes both printing and casting. The calculator uses weight tiers (smaller pieces cost more per gram due to setup time) and adds the metal cost per gram.
Print, Cast & Clean
Includes printing + casting + post-cast cleaning. This option adds additional finishing cost per gram based on the selected weight range.
4) Weight Tiers (Pricing by Gram Range)
Casting and production work is priced by weight tiers, because small pieces require nearly the same setup time as larger pieces. As the gram weight increases, the per-gram labor rate decreases. This calculator automatically selects the correct tier based on your Piece Gram Weight.
5) Gold & Platinum Adders (Real-World Production Costs)
Some metals require extra handling and cost during casting. The calculator automatically applies additional per-gram adders depending on the metal and service level:
Platinum includes additional adders due to higher temperature requirements and special casting considerations.
Gold includes karat-based adders because different alloys and karats affect casting complexity and material handling.
6) Optional Dollar-Per-Gram Markup
If you want to add your own profit margin or shop markup, enter a Dollar Per Gram Markup. The calculator multiplies your markup by the piece weight and adds it to the total:
Markup Total = (Markup per gram) × (Piece grams)
This is useful for quoting customers and building consistent pricing across different metals and job sizes.
